Who We Are

The Association of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine Nigeria was established to unite and guide practitioners. Operating as a strict not-for-profit and non-political organization, we are governed by a solemn resolve to uphold the integrity of our profession. Our supreme leadership organ is a dedicated Board of Trustees, ensuring transparency, accountability, and proper utilization of all resources to benefit our members and the public.

History of acupuncture and traditional Chinese

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Acupuncture represent one of the world’s oldest continuous systems of healthcare, with roots dating back over 2,500 years. Founded on the ancient philosophy of balance and harmony, TCM views the human body as a complex, interconnected system where vital energy, known as Qi (pronounced “chee”), flows through distinct meridians or pathways.

Acupuncture, a fundamental pillar of this ancient system, involves the precise placement of fine, sterile needles to stimulate these pathways. This process is designed to remove blockages, restore the body’s natural balance, and promote holistic self-healing.

Over millennia, these practices have evolved from classical historical texts—like the Huangdi Neijing (The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine)—into highly respected, globally recognized therapeutic disciplines. Today, organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) recognize acupuncture for its effectiveness in treating a wide array of physical and mental health conditions.

Here in Nigeria, the Association of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine Abuja is proud to carry this profound legacy forward. We are dedicated to blending this ancient wisdom with modern clinical safety standards, ensuring that this time-honored practice continues to provide effective and compassionate healthcare to our communities.
